About

Stymie is a nonprofit online literary magazine, founded in 2008 on the outskirts of Saint Louis, focused on sport (and games) in literature, be it through fiction, poetry, or nonfiction. We love the sport themed work (i.e. baseball) published at places like Hobart and The Southern Review, and other places like Golf World (in their annual fiction issue).

We're partial to the essays of David Foster Wallace, the short stories of Kelly Link, and other such things. We'd be ecstatic to get an essay on 1986's Double Dribble for the NES. We hope you'll check out an old issue* or even better, take a look at our GUIDELINES, if you still have questions.

Occasionally, Stymie gets mentioned outside the confines of our own website, some examples include:
-Thoroughly discussed at The Writer magazine.
-Profiled at ESPN The Magazine.
-Review at PANK Magazine.
-Mentioned at Luna Park Review.
-Referenced at HTMLGIANT.
