Our journal/magazine is focused thematically on golf, so the topic should somehow be involved in your submission.
THINGS TO INCLUDE:
Submissions should include a brief bio; contact information including your name as you wish to see it published and e-mail/URL if you would like it posted; title, we are amazed by the number of submissions we receive without titles.
FORMAT:
We are fans of .rtf extensions and 12 point Courier New font. We'd love if it you followed standard manuscript format, we'd consider giving you two strokes a side if you do. Speaking of formatting, please model the subject line of your e-submission as follows:
TITLE, YOUR NAME, TYPE OF SUBMISSION (Fiction, Poetry, Artwork, Nonfiction)
###
FICTION:
We want fiction, we crave it. We want mystery, lit fic, noir, humor, spec fic, whatever -- just so long as it (your submission) somehow involves golf. We have a penchant for flash fiction and would prefer nothing over 3000 words.
POETRY:
We don't hate poetry, it's just that we have never read any really great golf poetry (at least not until we started reading for issue one). If you think you are up to task, send it in. We might surprise you if you surprise us.
NONFICTION:
This is pretty open ended (although we do have a preference for narrative nonfiction), just be sure that if you say its true it really is. Oh and if you've read a great piece of golf related literature we are open to reviews as well.
ARTWORK:
All artwork must be in digital format at least 300 dpi and at least 6" in it's smallest dimension and saved as a jpeg.
RESPONSE TIME:
Please allow 4-6 weeks for a response (being such a thematic magazine, response times do run into the occasional lull, but we try to keep our writers in the loop during these periods). We do not read new submissions in the month prior to a new issue, so any items received during this time will have a longer response window.
Sadly, we cannot pay you as all of our extra money has been spent on green fees. Seriously though, we regret to say it but we are a non-paying market. We understand that may impact some writers decisions as to whether or not they will submit here and we respect that.
RIGHTS:
We generally do not print previously published work but like most things in life this is open to negotiation (we just ask that you let us know if your submission is a reprint). Stymie Magazine acquires first North American rights. Upon publication, rights revert to the author/artist. Stymie Magazine reserves the right to reprint work at a later date if it is selected for inclusion in a print anthology (we have lofty goals).
